Sandy Earl

bikemeister Crew

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I work as a health educator for Humboldt County – teaching healthy living options for people throughout the lifespan. A work day might see me teaching middle school kids how to ride a bike, high school kids how to make good decisions around tobacco, or older adults how to avoid falling by practicing Tai Chi. I live in Eureka, CA with my partner Bill and our dogs, Bo and Aero. My main hobbies are cycling, cycling, cycling, gardening, and cooking. I’m passionate about ultra endurance sports and chasing the perfect latte.
2) Why did you make the decision to crew on RAAM? I made the decision to crew THIS RAAM because of the dedication of the rest of the crew, quite honestly. Michael DNF’d RAAM in 2018 as a rookie with an all-rookie crew. That almost all of them wanted to come back and do it again is pretty rare. We’re going to finish this!
3) What are you most excited about regarding this adventure?  I’m excited about the team and the camaraderie and the creative problem-solving that will get Michael to the finish line. Just being out there is a huge privilege – COVID has taught us that if nothing else. I can’t wait to be racing!
4) What special skills and talents do you believe you bring to the team? I’m kind of a jack of all trades, but I bring a lot of experience to this team; I’ve crewed and raced RAAM and RAW several times. Like the Farmers’ insurance ads, “I know a thing or two, because I’ve seen a thing or two….”
5) What is the first thing you will do when you cross the finish line with Michael in Annapolis? Probably bawl my eyes out, honestly.
