THE RIDER
Michael Davies-Hughes

Michael Davies-Hughes was born and raised in the United Kingdom - specifically Wales. His childhood was spent roaming the mountains of Snowdonia National Park. Michael developed his interest in endurance events while attending university in Cardiff, Wales where he earned his degree in Human Movement Studies. Michael came to California as an exchange student, attending California State University, Long Beach in the Spring Semester of 1989. It was here that he entered his first marathon. Michael went on to complete more than a dozen marathons (including Boston, New York, San Francisco, and San Antonio) as well as a couple of ultra-marathons and multi-sport endurance events. Michael moved to Northern California in 2001, settling in Eureka, the hometown of his wife, Tami.
Riding through the towering coastal redwoods that hug the Northern California coastline provided Michael the inspiration to “go long, and go hard!” Michael decided to commit himself to the 2018 Race Across America after qualifying in Borrego Springs, CA during the 2016 24-Hour World Time Trial Championships.
Michael lives with his wife, Tami, and three wonderful children; daughters Seren and Nia, and son, Brennig. When he’s not riding or spending time with his family Michael works at Eureka City Schools where he serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. He is also a Rotarian in the Rotary Club of Southwest Eureka.
